➡️ Step Three: Create a Powerful Headline

Every advert, promotion and listing needs a headline.

A good headline follows the 4U formula. It should tick at least one, but ideally two or three, of these criteria:

  • Useful – a headline should offer something useful to the prospect.
  • Ultra-specific – where possible, it should have specific details. Numbers, prices, dates, times, measurements and names
  • Urgent – it should feel timely and urgent.
  • Unique – try to bring out the USP

So put this into ChatGPT and ask it to create headline ideas.

➡️ “I need you to write me a powerful headline for my product, which helps people who are [target buyer] to [get main benefit] and [secondary benefit] and [third benefit]. It has the following USP [insert USP or USPs}. Give me 5 ideas. Make the language personal, conversational and emotional, using powerful words and phrases. It needs to be:

  • Useful – offer something useful to the prospect.
  • Ultra-specific – where possible, it should have specific details. Numbers, prices, dates, times, measurements and names
  • Urgent – it should feel timely and urgent.
  • Unique – try to bring out the USP“

Eg,

➡️ “I need you to write me a powerful headline for my product, a Kindle eBook which helps people who struggle with insomnia to get a better quality sleep, more often, so that they have more energy, less stress and fewer daily health problems. The USP is that these are techniques not available anywhere else.

  • Unique – try to bring out the USP.“

It would deliver something like this:

  1. “Transform Your Nights: Discover the Kindle aBook That Guarantees You Deeper Sleep in Just 7 Days!”
    • This headline emphasises urgency (7 days), specificity (deeper sleep), and the unique solution your product offers.
  2. “Say Goodbye to Insomnia: Kindle eBook’s Proven Sleep Secrets for More Energy & Less Stress Every Day!”
    • It highlights the useful aspects (proven sleep secrets), urgency (every day), and the emotional benefits (more energy, less stress).
  3. “Unlock Restful Nights: Try the Kindle aBook That 9 out of 10 Users Say Improved Their Sleep Quality!”
    • This one uses specificity (9 out of 10 users), and uniqueness (improved sleep quality), adding a sense of reliability and trust.
  4. “Revolutionise Your Sleep Today: Kindle aBook’s Step-by-Step Guide to Ending Insomnia & Boosting Daily Health!”

  5. “Experience Uninterrupted Sleep: Kindle eBooks Exclusive Techniques for a Healthier, More Energetic You in 2024!”
    • This headline incorporates uniqueness (exclusive techniques), specificity (2024), and the personal benefit (healthier, more energetic you).

Here’s another example…

➡️ “I need you to write me a powerful headline for my product, a digital planner which shows people who are running a small business how to increase productivity, manage their staff and clients, find new leads and save hours of wasted time on admin. The USP is that this is the only UK planner specifically for UK small business.  Give me 5 ideas. Make the language personal, conversational and emotional, using powerful words and phrases. It needs to be: • Useful – offer something useful to the prospect. • Ultra-specific – where possible, it should have specific details. Numbers, prices, dates, times, measurements and names • Urgent – it should feel timely and urgent. • Unique – try to bring out the uniqueness of this information. “

You might get…

  1. “Maximise Your Business Potential: The Digital Planner That Saves You 10 Hours on Admin Every Week!”
    • This headline offers a specific and useful benefit (saving 10 hours weekly), creating a sense of urgency and showcasing the unique time-saving feature of your planner.
